In 2023 I came back to painting gaming minis after a long hiatus. Borrowed a bunch of old Warhammer 40k Space Marines from my Brother to practice on. The first try didn't go so well... 
The paint was way too thick. Also I realized there were some layers of old paint underneath I needed to strip. I cleaned the model and started over. Watched some YouTube videos for some technique help and I ended up with this...
Still not super smooth but an improvement. I had a lot of fun with the shading and I was able to get more detail than I had in the past. I decided to make my way through painting the rest of my Brothers army, improving and learning more techniques as I go. After a couple of months I have a lot more control. The paint is a lot smoother and I'm getting pretty happy with the results...
